Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2019

The 2nd Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® event was another overwhelmingly successful day!  It may have been damp, rainy and overcast, but that did not stop this community from coming out and showing their support!  This year we asked men and women to rise up and choose to commit to ending violence. With one voice hundreds of individuals said, “We Promise. In Every Moment. Of Everyday. WE WILL COMMIT to Walk for You!”  It was an incredible way to join together with one common goal | to publicly declare for all women who are or have experienced abuse & violence, that we believe them and will stand by them and that we DO NOT condone Violence Against Women.

This year nearly 150 men and women stepped up in high heels (and other fun footwear!) on May 25 to walk the Hub Path along St. Mary’s Rive to increase awareness and help families walk away from domestic violence. Additionally, a fantastic showing of community members came out to show their support of the work we do, and to join their voices with all the Walkers #EndVAW.

We surpassed all our expectations again this year with a final total of $53,233 of in kind and monetary support raised that will have a tremendous impact on Sault Ste. Marie and our domestic violence prevention and awareness programs at Women In Crisis.

Because of you, a child in our city doesn’t need to go to bed tonight in fear.

Because of you, more families can take the first steps toward healing.

Because of you, young people are learning about domestic violence, and the cycle of abuse can be broken.

Thank you.
